In case you have been living under a rock for the last few days or so, you would know that Mortal Kombat X has been released. Quick review. It's amazing. While Mortal Kombat X is getting a lot of high praise, including from our own Jeremy Duff, it's also getting an equal amount of hatred as well. Mostly due to the fact that the game has microtransactions in the form of "easy fatalities".
Easy fatalities eliminate the long combination you have to enter to pull one off. Instead you just have to hold R2 and press one of the face buttons. Now, I can understand some of the anger towards this but hear me out for a second.
First of all, easy fatalities are NOT something that is essential to the game. It's not like buying these would give you some kind of advantage over other players. Fatalities can only be performed after you have won or lost. Personally, as a Mortal Kombat veteran that has been playing since the first game in 1992, I can easily pull off fatalities, but this is something nice for newer players or casual MK fans that love performing fatalities.
Second, if you do want to do easy fatalities, you can find them for free in the Kyrpt. Well it's not really "free" you have to spend in game money but you aren't spending any real world cash.
Finally, and what I feel is most important, is the fact that more money for NetherRealm Studios is a VERY good thing. Without getting into spoilers too much, lets just say that there are characters that fans want as DLC outside of the announced Kombat pack. The more money that NetherRealm gets, the more content that they can provide the fans and the longer they can support the game. The one thing that I want from Mortal Kombat X is tons of post release support. The one thing I hated about Mortal Kombat 9 was the fact that they quickly released the DLC characters and then all support for the game was pretty much over.
Bottom line is that I understand the frustration with microtransactions, especially when games purposefully force you to grind for years in order to unlock things making you think that the only way to get said content is with microtransactions. This is not the case with Mortal Kombat X and in my opinion, isn't that big of a deal. Don't want easy fatalities? Don't buy them.
