In just under 2 weeks, Planetside 2, the massive multiplayer online first-person shooter developed by Sony Online Entertainment, will enter a closed beta in North America. The beta will start with just a few thousand invites but will expand as it progresses on a first come, first served basis by signing up at: https://www.planetside2.com/ps2onps4
We've talked about Planetside 2 before, back at E3 in 2013, and again at E3 in 2014, and you can check out the trailer here. More information on the Beta can be found at Executive Producer Clint Worley's blog post.
Planetside 2 will be a free to play MMOFPS. I've already signed up for the Beta and hope I can report back soon with details on how it plays, but in the meantime, this blurb form the press release will have to do:
"PlanetSide 2 is a revolutionary massive scale first-person shooter where soldiers battle as one in strategic, targeted missions against enemy empires in an all-out planetary war. The game challenges the skill and grit of the most seasoned soldier through intense infantry, air, and ground vehicle gameplay.
Across the continents of Auraxis, thousands of players will come together in enormous battles to win control of critical territories and key resources for their empire. With an extensive skill tree and free-form class-based system, players will be able to customize their soldier, weapons and vehicles to match their play-style, as well as the needs of their squad, outfit or empire. Battles can last for days or weeks, so players will need to build alliances and specialized combat outfits to take on long-term strategic and tactical initiatives. With aircraft and ground vehicles, as well as infantry combat, the battles will be larger and more intense than ever before."
