The SMITE World Championships are coming in just a few weeks and thanks to the community, the prize pool for the event has reached unprecedented levels. From January 9th - 11th, eight teams from around the world will battle it out for over $2.1+ million dollars making it the third biggest prize pool in e-sports history. They also edged out League of Legends 2014 World Championship prize pool of 2.14 million dollars.
It doesn't stop there however. As of me writing this, the prize pool is currently at $2,160,463 and will continue to grow until the SMITE World Championship in a few weeks. I can easily see the pool getting to 2.2 million.
This is a huge milestone for SMITE and Hi-Rez studios considering SMITE technically hasn't even been released for an entire year.
I have been playing SMITE since July 2013 when it was still in beta and It's just incredible to me to see how far the series has come in such a short time. I have a feeling that 2015 will be a huge year for SMITE and e-sports in general and I cannot wait to see what the future brings.
Tickets for the SMITE World Championships are still on sale and all of the action will be broadcast on their official Twitch channel. Those attending the SMITE World Championship in person will also get their first hands on experience with the Xbox One version of the game, which will be coming sometime next year.
