The 3DS XL is getting three new makeovers for the holiday, and all three will be sold exclusively at Gamestop. The first to launch, on September 19th, is a Super Smash Bros. styled 3DS XL to go along with the new game, which is scheduled to arrive on October 3rd.
The second is an NES-themed XL coming October 10th, with the retro controller emblazoned on the front and red buttons on the inside. The final model is a Persona Q edition 3DS XL, which will launch alongside the game on November 25th. Sadly, none of these models will come bundled with their respective games.
I'm most tempted by the NES-style XL, as I have the NES style Game Boy Advance SP from way back in the day. That said, I don't think the NES styling is as nice or as well integrated on the 3DS as it was on the GBA, and in any case, I already have a 3DS XL.
Nintendo is probably trying to move inventory of older models and components with these enticing aesthetic changes, in anticipation of the New 3DS models with the added horsepower, analog sticks and other improvements. As tempting as an NES 3DS XL is, I'll wait for the New 3DS to come stateside early next year.
