If there is one thing that you see a lot of throughout your Destiny experience, as I am sure many of you are discovering today, it is a little message at the bottom on the screen that says “Grimoire Card unlocked”. Yet, even after seeing the message dozens of times within your first couple of hours, there is little to show for it in the game. What is a Grimoire Card and why should you care? Well, let me tell you why!
Fans of Bungie, and their previous work, know the efforts that they put in to building their IP’s. They make an attempt to build more than just a game (or games) but worlds. I am sure many of you heard of the fabled “Halo Bible” that existed within the company and outlined an entire universe outside of just the Master Chief saga. They’re great at building these sorts of things, and that is exactly what they are aiming to do with Destiny.
However, this time around we, as fans, are going to have access to the “Destiny Bible” (of sorts). Actually, we are sort of tasked with constructing it for our own consumption on Bungie.net (or through the Destiny mobile application). Each Grimoire Card that you unlock is a new “chapter” or addition to the compiled information regarding the history, inhabitants, weapons, and planets of Destiny. If you are the kind of gamer who likes to dig further into the experience than just what is given to you while you are behind the controller, these are right up your alley. So the next time you have a few minutes and you aren’t planet-hopping in the game, take the time to visit your profile on Bungie’s website and take in the fruits of your labor in the Grimoire section. Make sure to check back occasionally too as your collection is ever-changing and growing as you meet new people and experience new events in the game.
