Famed RPG developer and creator of the Final Fantasy series Hironobu Sakaguchi held a panel about RPGs at this weekend's PAX Prime where he revealed that he wished Chrono Trigger would become a series similar to Final Fantasy. Speaking through a translator, he explained that the team tried to continue the series but they never saw eye-to-eye with the management, eventually losing the battle to keep it going. He also expressed interest in continuing some of his other series like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, but he stressed that nothing was confirmed. One sequel to Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, was made on the PlayStation One, but Sakaguchi did not work on it.
I firmly believe that Chrono Trigger is one of, if not the best RPG ever made so I can't say I wouldn't have loved to see where the series could have gone. But then again there is something special about Chrono Trigger being a standalone game of such high quality.
