Let's make sure that we're clear on this before we go further: This pertains to those who only have the 12GB Playstation 3.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's cover this release by Rockstar regarding Grand Theft Auto 5.
Rockstar continues to upgrade the online world of GTA V and, by doing so, has required updates along the way. Now, with the latest update going through and increasing the required patch to over 12 GB, Rockstar has remembered that there are still people out there with tiny hard drives and may need some help.
As the world of Grand Theft Auto Online continues to expand and evolve through ongoing updates, storage limitations of the PlayStation®3 12GB hardware will require owners to purchase additional storage to accommodate GTAV Title Updates after 1.16 (released on 8/19/14). All updates and content must remain installed on the system in order to maintain compatibility for all players within GTA Online.
So, in short, Rockstar just made it impossible to play GTA V online mode for these poor souls who skimped from the start.
In truth, I can't imagine that this is affecting a large group of people, especially with all of the versions with large hard drives that have been released in the last several years. Still, this is a required update, and people are going to be mad about it.
