Earlier today it was reported that Amazon may be buying the popular video game streaming service Twitch.tv, and now the deal has been confirmed by both companies. Amazon and Twitch both issued press releases confirming the $970 million deal. "We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster," Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said in the release. It was previously rumored that Google would be buying Twitch for $1 billion.
This news came out of nowhere, but I have faith that Amazon has big plans for the future of Twitch and I can't wait to see what they are. Maybe they want to start a OnLive style game streaming service through Amazon Prime? That would certainly get my attention.
