Having received the Oculus Rift DK2 last Wednesday, I was interested to see what was inside of the headset to make it tick. Luckily, iFixit got a hold of one and did one of their great teardowns to show you what's inside.
What was surprising was inside the Rift, there sits a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 screen. The screen is gorgeous as it's one of the best cell phone screens out there to date, but it's funny to see the iFixit people peel back a rubber case around the screen and the words Samsung sitting on the front. The screen even has the touchscreen controller as well. So, if your screen ever goes out, you can order a Note 3 part and just replace it.
It's good to know that if there are problems, it seems easy to fix with it being easy to take apart and the various components easily accessible.
I've had a lot of fun with the DK2 unit so far, but I'm waiting on more games and applications to be compatible with the new SDK before I really put it through its paces.
