According to Engadget, starting in September, Google Play will no longer allow games with in-app purchases to call themselves "free." Hearthstone's five-part expansion, Curse of Naxxramas, is free for a month for its first wing, and $7 or 700 gold for the remaining four. And Maxis (SimCity, The Sims) is hiring a senior designer to start work on a new IP that cites Minecraft, Project Spark and LittleBigPlanet as "creativity space" inspirations.
What are you playing this weekend?

This weekend will see my Wii U and I reunite as I attempt to finally finish up The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. I played it a bit when I first got the Wii U and hadn't really touched it since. I recently finished up the Forest Temple (or whatever it's technically called in Wind Waker) and now I'm hoping to finally finish this one up.

I'm going to get a few minutes on the Destiny beta if I can pry the controller out of Chuck’s hands. And if I can bike like I did last week I might be able to pry that win in the triathlon out of Chuck’s hands, too.

With the unveiling of the new Doom (formerly Doom 4) at QuakeCon, it's time for me to start the long replay of all the official Doom games. I just finished the original four episodes and started on Doom II. I should be able to get through Final Doom, Doom 64, Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil by the time the new game comes out next year. I'm also still having more fun than should be allowed with Saints Row IV. Did you know there's a super power that lets turn people into solid gold just by bumping into them, and shooting them makes them explode into showers of cash? There is also a "They Live" mission where Roddy Piper and Keith David throw down in another epic fistfight. Dear God in heaven I love this game.

This weekend will consists of more battles with wizards from the moon, meaning extended exploration trips into the world of Destiny. While Xbox One owners try it out with its sub-par resolution, I will enjoy it in its complete glory on the PS4. I am also going to dip my toes back into the world of Injustice: Gods Among Us since I picked it up super cheap for the PS4 in this week's PSN sale.

I'm going to be spending a lot of quality time with the Destiny beta on the Xbox One this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays on the Xbox One as I still haven't figured out which platform I'm going to pick the game up on. At this point I think this is going to be the first game I buy two copies of so I can play with two different sets of friends. I'm also going to be digging into the new Hearthstone content, Curse of Naxxramas, so I can keep up with my fiancee who will be plowing through it as soon as it is released. We both have poured hours into the content, and given our competitive nature I'm sure there is going to be a race to see who can finish it first (spoiler: probably her). Outside of that, I'm going to be running a super-sprint triathlon with Ben on Saturday and hoping that I can once again beat him across the finish line.

I’m the last person you’ll ever find roped into an online multiplayer shooter. That said, however, I’m all over this Destiny beta, too. While PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners are debating which version looks better, I’m over here playing on 360. Doesn’t matter. I can’t get enough of its Star Wars/Half-Life/Mass Effect/RAGE aesthetic and cleaner-than-an-Apple-product interface. Otherwise, I’m leaving every other staff member scratching their heads as I play the Adults Only-rated Seduce Me. Remember that sexy game that was so sexy it was banned from Steam Greenlight? That’s the one. Let’s just say that it doesn’t hide its Sexy Time™ intentions, unlike, perhaps, a BioWare or Witcher game might do.

The first Legend of Zelda is my favorite game from one of my favorite franchises. And even though I've beaten it countless times, I recently realized that I've never gotten past the first dungeon of the second quest. Luckily my copy still has a fresh-off-the-first-quest save file that I never touched, so I was able to dive right in. Even though I don't really have a lot of time to play it, it's enough of a remix of a game I have completely memorized to give me that same sense of mystery and adventure that made me fall in love with it in the first place. It's like I got bored of my favorite game and put out an ad in the personals in the paper, only to have that same game answer my ad. Yes, I'm saying that Zelda's second quest is the Pina Colada of gaming. But It's also extremely frustrating. I've been bombing every wall and headbutting every rock to try to find that fourth dungeon. I would like that dungeon to know that I have a certain set of skills. Skills that I have acquired over a long career of gaming that make me a nightmare for levels like it. I will find it. I will plunder its treasures. And I will adorn its door with the head of its master when I am done with it.
