Unless you're cosplaying as Geralt himself, The Witcher doesn't inspire the most awe-inspiring costume players. Yes, The Witcher is a bold, unique take on the world of role-playing games when it comes to storytelling and world building. But its low-fantasy approach won't make you stand out much at a gaming convention.
No matter. CD Projekt RED will now award money and prizes for the top Witcher cosplayers. Starting now and running through October 30 (just in time to take your creation on the streets for Halloween), you can submit your Witcher cosplay to CD Projekt RED through thewitcher.com/cosplay.
First prize gets a thousand bucks, a chance to tag along to conventions, free of charge, in order to show off their award-winning cosplay, some replica Witcher jewelry, a collector's edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, signed by the development team, and a piece of signed, framed concept art.
Second and third place go down from there, of course, but most cosplayers do it out of love and aren't often rewarded, monetarily or otherwise, for their hard work. Unless you count routine sexual harrassment as a perk. (Remember: "Cosplay is not consent.")
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases the hounds on February 24, 2015, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
