Nintendo has been teasing a brand new 3DS IP all week and during a small press conference last night they finally revealed exactly what it was. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is a strategy RPG being developed by Intelligent Systems, the same team that brought us amazing strategy games like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. Their newest game tells the story of a special team created by Abraham Lincoln that battles aliens with steam powered weaponry. The combat is a mix of turn based RPG and third-person shooting using a set team of fighters. As you progress you will gain more party members to fight against the alien menace. The game's art style was inspired by silver age american comic books, with a lot of cel shading, and the enemy designs were inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The game's creators hope that Code Name S.T.E.A.M. can help introduce more players to the strategy genre when it releases sometime in 2015.
While I was initially a little disappointed the 3DS announcement wasn't Metroid, Majora's Mask, or Mother 3 (I want so many M games) I was happily surprised when I found out Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. was a new game from Intelligent Systems, one of my all time favorite developers. The art style looks great, and the gameplay sounds reminiscent of Valkyria Chronicles.
