See, everybody says they want new ideas in video gaming, but then something like Hatoful Boyfriend comes along and, all of a sudden, everybody's like, "I don't want a pigeon-dating simulator."
Let me tell you something: You don't know what you want.
In Hatoful Boyfriend, you play a human girl (take that, avian patriarchy!) attending St. PigeoNation's Institute (okaaay), where every pursuable male pigeon (uh-huh) is introduced as an anime version of what they would look like if they were human, but then they go back to being pigeons.
I mean, these birds hit on you with lines like, "Being a hunter-gatherer sounds tough. I could make you breakfast, you know." Hot.
Japan has been playing this visual novel/dating sim since 2011, but Hatoful Boyfriend is (finally!) coming to North America this summer on PC and Mac.
MEDIATONIC AND DEVOLVER DIGITAL REMAKING JAPANESE
PIGEON DATING SIM ‘HATOFUL BOYFRIEND’
- Love is for the Birds -
The Nest – Hardcore pigeon dating sim fans everywhere are cooing with delight as developer Mediatonic (Amatuer Surgeon, Foul Play) and avian-friendly publisher Devolver Digital are joining forces to remake Hato Moa’s standout visual novel Hatoful Boyfriend for PC and Mac this summer. Originally launched in 2011 as a limited release Japanese visual novel, Hatoful Boyfriend quickly drew a loyal following of fans that created translation packs, gorgeous artwork, and even romantic fan faction based on their favorite pigeon boyfriends.
As the only human in St. PigeoNation’s prestigious school for birds you’ll encounter a feathered cast of characters and choose a suitable love interest all while managing elective school classes. Follow your heart as you choose your path and go on romantic dates you but be wary of fowl twists and turns along the way that could turn your love life upside down. There has literally never been a pigeon dating visual novel like Hatoful Boyfriend before.
Playable at E3 2014 by appointment only, Hatoful Boyfriend will launch later this summer on PC and Mac via Steam, GOG, Humble, and other digital storefronts.
“Our research shows that consumer fatigue for space marines and dragons is at an all-time high – gamers are ready for something new and fresh,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “Semi-realistic pigeon dating simulations are the next great frontier in video games.”
