It certainly looks like it takes place during Holmes's native late-19th/early-20th century, but if the trailer is to be believed, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments lifts directorial cues from the recent Sherlock TV series.
Three new screenshots unveil clues that Crimes & Punishments not only promenades along moonlit streets of London, but also into muddy carnival-barker circus rings, and into a chemistry lab where a finger-tenting scientist hangs out with his two best friends: Bunsen Burner and Erlenmeyer Flask. Haha. Joke.
This particular Sherlock looks more Clive Owen than he does Benedict Cumberbatch, but I'm feeling it. Nasal drawl and all.
Also, it's now confirmed that in addition to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, Crimes & Punishments will also launch in early September on Xbox One. Kind of an unexpected title to find it's way to Xbox One, I'd say.
A RELEASE DATE, A NEW PLATFORM AND NEW SCREENSHOTS FOR CRIMES & PUNISHMENTS!
Crimes & Punishments, the new investigation game developed by Frogwares studio, is now set for release on consoles and PC early September 2014! Previously announced for PlayStation®4, PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and PC, we can now officially confirm that Crimes & Punishments will also be released on Xbox One®.
On this occasion, discover 3 new screenshots of the game, featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson investigating some of the crime scenes from the 6 exceptional cases the game asks you to solve. You will have to exploit the incredible gifts and talents of Sherlock, such as his ability to guess the details of an individual's life simply by observing them, or to imagine and reconstruct a past event by studying the key features of a crime scene, in order to find out the truth. But what will you do with your suspects? Will you listen to your moral sense, or will you impartially enforce justice?
Maximum Games, exclusive North American distributors of the title, will be previewing the game at E3 this June. "Crimes and Punishments arrives at a very unique and exciting time given the recent phenomenon of Sherlock Holmes in the United States," said Christina Seelye, CEO of Maximum Games. "It's not enough to say that the game will be popular among fans. More than that, Crimes and Punishments gives players a chance to embody the character they respect so much. Instead of merely watching Sherlock's amazing abilities, players are dropped into scenarios where they must use their detective skills as Sherlock would."
Crimes & Punishments will be released on PlayStation®4, Xbox One®, PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and PC early September 2014.
About Crimes & Punishments
Crimes & Punishments marks the most important stage in the Sherlock Holmes series. The decision by Frogwares studios to switch from the in-house engine to the Epic Unreal Engine 3 enables a much richer, more immersive and detailed rendering of both the environments and characters.
But the change of game engine has not only improved the graphics; new investigation techniques have been developed and the game can now offer 14 game mechanics. From the opening of each of the six investigations up to the arrest of the culprits and the moral dilemmas faced by the players, the new game mechanics convey the feeling of BEING Sherlock Holmes. Players will therefore be able to exploit the incredible gifts and talents for which he is renowned, such as his ability to guess the details of an individual's life simply by observing them, or to imagine and reconstruct a past event by studying the key features of a crime scene.
