We now know what the mysterious clock on central time was for as the folks at Penny-Arcade announced PAX South today. The first iteration of the event will run occur on January 23-25, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.
It's certainly nice for those people in that part of the country to get their own gaming show, especially given all of the game development companies in the area (relatively speaking) but you do have to wonder if we are reaching capacity for gaming events.
As an industry now as we know have four Penny Arcade Expos, GDC, E3, Gamescom, the Tokyo Game show, the VGA's, San Diego Comic Con, and the New York Comic Con. That's not including other events like DICE and the Gamestop managers show all of which create additional strain on developers to make show appearances rather than actually working on games.
I have no doubt that the event will sell out quickly but it will be interesting to see who shows up from a publisher perspective as the event comes so quickly after the holiday season and right before GDC.
