Bohemia Interactive has announced that Take On Mars will receive a future update, titled Expedition One, which will allow players to explore the red planet and eventually establish a human colony. Participants in the manned mission to Mars will be tasked with conducting scientific experiments, constructing habitats through various installations, and searching for sources of oxygen, water, and raw materials. To survive the harsh martian environment, players will have to manage their oxygen levels and food stocks, grow plants, and operate drilling rigs for the search of additional raw materials.
The human exploration aspect of Mars will comprise the game's second chapter, with the first being the already-available rover exploration missions. Players that opt to skip the first chapter will begin with less resources than those that completed the previous rover exploration missions. The list of features include:
Bohemia Interactive's CEO Marek Spanel described the studio's concept behind the update's creation, "As a studio, we've always been obsessed with games that explore topics of human fascination. One of those is space exploration. Missions to Mars - from the past, present, and also some ambitious projects for the future - sparked our imagination about what it would be like to be the first human on Mars. We soon felt that this should be the endgame for the Take On Mars campaign."
The Expedition One update for Take On Mars will be available in the second quarter of 2014. Take On Mars is available now for Windows PC through Steam.
