Well, that was quick. Shortly after we reported The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 firing up Kickstarter, it hit its funding goal. The point-and-click adventure raked in $60,000 in 30 hours, which tells me that there's still a desire for adventure games that don't make you second-guess every single decision you make in a downward spiral of heartbreak and regret – ahem, The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. (I mean, you guys are awesome, Telltale Games, but maybe y'all could lighten up a bit? No? Just? A little?)
So, congratulations are in order for developer King Art. Stretch goal-wise, they'll add side quests and interchangeable outfits at $95,000 (a nonexistent feature of adventure gaming nowadays, to the best of my knowledge); a production blog, behind-the-scenes video and live orchestral recordings of some of the soundtrack songs at $145,000; and a director's cut at $235,000 that cranks up the dynamism with cameras zooming in and out on the environments, a broadened range of facial animations and increased animations, and the orchestra will be hired for the entire original soundtrack instead of just select tracks.
Here's a victory lap video starring two of the game's main characters.

”It is good to know that there are many players out there who enjoy big, classic adventure games,“ says Jan Theysen, Creative Director at KING Art Games. ”For The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 we purposely decided to steer clear of some current trends and aimed the game at core gamers, gave it a large scale, and put the focus clearly on puzzles and classic gameplay. We are extremely pleased that fans also share our views and generously pledged their support.“
The campaign will continue to run for a further 38 days. In this time KING Art hopes to achieve three stretch goals that would further enhance the game – optional puzzles, an orchestra soundtrack, and extensive behind-the-scenes material.
