Look, I'm just going to be honest here: I don't get esports. If I carved the rules of the world into stone, one the entries would be "watching others play video games is boring." And if esports isn't watching other people play video games, then I don't know what it is.
Then I watched the trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty Championship and my esteem for the entire human race dipped considerably. I know that there is a certain amount of "look at me and how much better than you I am" swagger in all sports, but in traditional sports there is a certain aspect of physical fitness and prowess that adds weight to such a boast. I can't kick a soccer ball like Zlatan Ibrahimovich or beast mode like Marshawn Lynch, so when they do the whole "look at how much more awesome I am than you" I'm like, "yeah, I can see that." On the other hand, when some dude pulls off a head shot in Call of Duty and pounds on his chest like he just performed a feat no other human could pull off, I'm just embarrassed for humanity. Because I, too, can pull off a head shot in a video game.
If you can watch the following trailer and not feel just a twinge of embarrassment, then you're obviously far younger and far less cynical than I am.
