CES 2014: Thrustmaster Impressions

Our first appointment for Day 2 of CES was with the good folks at Thrustmaster. We’ve covered them for many years and at CES, we took a look at their line of headphones that they were showing.

The Y-400XW is an Xbox 360 wireless headset. Audio is transmitted wirelessly to the headset on the 2.4GHz band. Each ear cup houses a 50mm neodymium driver with an emphasis on bass. Something nice with the Y-400XW is that it comes with two different ear pads: cloth and leather. Depending on your preference, you can swap out the ear pad of your choosing or if you just want to switch things up a bit.

To help provide better voice performance, the Y-400XW features  a noise cancelling mic that can be detached.There’s also an inline remote to adjust chat settings. You’ll get up to 10 hours of usage on a single charge. If you do run out of power, you can use the headset while charging if you so desire. The Y-400XW retails for roughly $149.

If you have a PlayStation 3, there’s a version for you in the Y-400PW. It has the exact same feature set as the Y-400XW, but is made for the Sony console.

What if you want a headset that works universally, but is wired instead? That’s where the Y-250CPX comes in. This headset has the same audio quality as the other two thanks to the same 50mm drivers, but is made for multiple platforms.  The Y-250CPX also has an inline remote giving you voice and volume adjustments at your fingertips.

Hercules has a nice little lineup of headphones that aren’t too expensive and offer up some nice features. As they said, they are looking to offer the best bang for the buck with a lineup that offers the same good quality sound across the entire line of products for the various platforms.
