Well, that's a little more like it. Nintendo Enthusiast is reporting that Super Mario 3D World sold 243,192 copies during its first two days on shelves. Meanwhile, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has done pretty well too, with sales in excess of 295,000. This is good news for the beleaguered Wii U, at least in America, but the console isn't out of the woods yet. I also have to say that once again, I'm pretty disappointed in Nintendo fans.
As always they seem to buy the new Nintendo console just to play Nintendo games, not realizing that in order to survive and succeed, that new box needs plenty of third party sales to maintain support. Mario 3D World is a damn fine game, but so is Rayman Legends, ZombieU and Wonderful 101, the latter of which was even published by Nintendo. So I ask you, Nintendo fans, where were you all year long while the Wii U was struggling to survive? Just showing up for Mario and Zelda a couple times a year won't cut it anymore. If you want Wii U to survive long enough for Nintendo to make more of those first party games you love, you need to show some love to the third party titles too. You need to start treating the Wii U as an actual videogame console, not just the magical Nintendo funbox you boot up when a new Mario game shows up.
And with that, I'll gingerly step down from my soapbox so as not to sprain my ankle.
