If you have an RSS feed, then it's been wallpapered with talk about SteamOS and Steam Machines, et al. Cyril Lachel writes a level-headed review of a game that's burning down the internet: Grand Theft Auto V. And today I learned that soccer is called “The Beautiful Game”; Sean Cahill explains why in his review of FIFA 14.
What are you playing this weekend?

I've learned that having a brand new Wind Waker HD edition Nintendo Wii U makes you forget that you have a review that kind of needs to be done. Just because the embargo date for reviews hasn't passed yet doesn't mean I can put off it off to play
Nintendo Land. As such I'll be spending most of Saturday with
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl and writing up the review for that. As for Sunday, I'll likely
finally start up
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Yeah, I've had the bundle since launch and I have yet to touch the game.

FIFA 14 and
GTA V. Nothing more needs to be said. If I'm not around in like four days, someone send food to my house.

I'll be heading back to 3DS land as I dive into N-Space's criminally underrated and underplayed
Heroes of Ruin. The game has its rough edges, but it's a
Diablo-style dungeon-crawling loot-addiction-gateway-drug with multiple classes and four-person online co-op, and it's an original IP to boot. That's a damn impressive accomplishment all by itself, much less on a portable system.

I'll be climbing back into my big rig trucker this week to travel through newly added European countries in the recently released
Euro Truck Simulator 2: Going East! expansion pack. In between long hauls, I'll switch back to finishing the story missions in
Grand Theft Auto V. Lastly, if time permits, I'll be surviving from onslaughts of undead in the recently released
State of Decay early-access version on Steam.

I've started a new practice where I return a game to the store if I don't play it the week after I buy it. The first victim is
NHL 14, which looks amazing, but I haven't really had the chance to get into it -- so back to Best Buy it goes. This is no reflection on my feelings about the game or the NHL, but rather a statement of how little free time I seem to have lately. This weekend I'll be playing
MechWarrior Online as I wrap up my mastering of the Jenner class of mechs. I've already maxed out the JR-7(S) JR7-K variants of the class and just need to wrap up the JD7-F variant this weekend. The big question now is which class of mech to work on next. Right now it's between the plucky Centurion class and the hulking Atlus class. Will figure something out this weekend.

The Banner Saga: Factions is a pleasant surprise. I went in on a screenshot and a whim, and I came out swinging (and rather enjoying) this free-to-play turn-based 1v1 strategy game. It's
Skyrim for people who like Chess. In other news, I done gave up on getting an interview with EVE University. I'm henceforth casting out on my own rather than sitting around in an interview queue with dozens of other people sitting around in an interview queue. Or perhaps I'll start my own corporation. I'll call it Lone Wolves. The name's not supposed to make sense.

Still heading back to
Skyrim and working on playing through the game a second time with a different approach. Even with all the good games on the market (my apologies to
GTA V), I have yet to find a game that captivates both my time and attention like
Skyrim.

I made the mistake of going home and picking up a cache of old games, so I will inevitably spend my free time this weekend raising crops and clearing my field in
Harvest Moon. For those of you who are curious, my dog is named BUTT, I will make the redheaded inventor Ann my wife, and my cows are also all named BUTT. Basically, I'm completely repeating the playthrough I did when I was 13.

Heading to Atlanta for Anime Weekend Atlanta. While it deprives me of time with
GTA V and
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, it'll give me ample time to play
Star Wars Pinball on 3DS and
Dragon's Crown on my Vita during the flights.

I know this is silly, but I saw they added more surgeries and more achievements for
Surgeon Simulator 2013. It's a game I can fire up and play a few times quickly on my schedules during the weekend. Since I don't own
GTA V, I'm going to probably go through my library and try some of my old Steam purchases I've neglected, such as
Rage, and finishing up the story mode of
Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition.
