Some of us out there are still riding that high created by EVO 2013 last month. Myself included, as I've picked up
Street Fighter 4 again, and my Juri slowly but surely continues to get better. As I eagerly await
Ultra Street Fighter 4, I've found something else to occupy my time lately, and it's called Salty Bet.
Salty Bet was up and running during EVO but I completely missed the boat on it. Basically you're betting on who is going to win a fight between two players who are being shown on stream. You do this with Salty Bucks, the made up currency of Salty Bet, and you receive a payout based on the odds, or you lose your dough, relegating you to the 'Salt Mines' of digital poverty. So what is going on when there aren't live events for Salty Bet to be a part of? Right now it's the hilarious fighting game engine, Mugen, littered with some of the best and worst creations that people have made for the engine. As I type this I'm watching an edited version of Akuma from Capcom vs SNK 2, fighting against a Kraken. It's ridiculous, it's hilarious, it makes absolutely no sense, and it's oh so infuriating, and I love it. I've been hooked on it for a few days now, and there are new characters constantly being added to the rotation.
If you're interested, head over to
SaltyBet and get yourself signed up. Be warned, that chat is a hive of scum and villainy, but is it ever hilarious watching it blow up after a particularly contentious match up. For those that want to dive deeper, you can view the stats and your betting history if you join the Illuminati, which is a paid membership that grants you a minimum amount of Salty Bucks (to keep you out of the salt mines), and access to forums, stats, and other user information.
