The best way to beat the heat, at least herein he Midwest, is with some new games! The middle of July is bringing us an unusually large crop of games this year; aren’t the summers usually considered the drought of the industry in terms of new games? That certainly isn’t the case this year as nearly every week has been packed full of great titles. I know that I am going to take quite a bit of slack from some of my fellow staffers for my picks of the week, but I don’t care. Here they are:
- Magic 2014 Core Set: Put down the controller(s) and pick up the cards this week as the new core set for Magic the Gathering launches. The new set brings back the infamous sliver creature type back to the game which are known for buffering one another to insane levels. THe official release of the set will be this coming Friday with a variety of huge Friday Night Magic events across the nation.
- Mega Man Unlimited: A true labor of love has finally come to fruition as MegaPhil X’s Mega Man Unlimited has been officially released. I had the great pleasure of meeting (and ultimately become friends with) Philippe Poulin back at Capcom’s Captivate 2010 event where he introduced me to the project and I immediately fell in love. Over the past couple of year’s, it seems as if Mega Man fans of all ages have done the same with his completely original fan-game based on the blue bomber. This game is fantastic and could easily pass as an official Mega Man game with both its classic 8-bit styling and challenging difficulty. The best thing of all is that the game can be yours for no charge through the official website.
