The original Shadow Warrior was part of a not-taking-itself-seriously FPS triple threat back in the 90s, part of an unofficial trilogy that also included Rise of the Triad and Duke Nukem 3D. The retro-shooter geniuses at Flying Wild Hog--the fine folks behind Hard Reset--are rebooting the series this fall. To get ready you might want to revisit the original with
Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, which just came to Steam courtesy of Devolver Digital, and packed with new features, optimizations and achievements. With Rise of the Triad getting its own reboot release at the end of the month, this is turning out to be a great year for retro FPS.
I'm loving it in particular because I wasn't much of a console kid until the N64 tempted me over and I subsequently re-educated myself on all the Nintendo and Sega classics. I knew of the NES, SNES and Genesis and played them at friends' houses, but up until about 1997 however I was primarily a PC gamer, which meant my formative years were spent in Doom, Dark Forces, Commander Keen and the crass, goofball 3D Realms shooters of the mid-to-late 90s. Yes indeed, good times are here again.
