Oh boy, here we go again. On January 1st, 2013, Australian gamers rejoiced as their software ratings board finally got their act together and implemented an "R" rating for videogames. For years, games were refused classification and thus couldn't be sold in the country because the highest rating they had was a MA 15+ rating, which is essentially a Teen rating here in America.
Despite the new R rating, it appears that Saints Row IV is too inappropriate for Australians as the game has been refused classification in the country, essentially meaning it's banned. For now at least.
Here is the reason the swift, ban hammer of morality was handed down.
In the Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines.
So, congratulations Saints Row IV! You just became the first game refused classification with the new ratings system. Maybe 20 years from now, they will introduce another new rating and people can finally play it.
