One of the titles that Microsoft was rumored to have at this year’s E3 was Halo: Spartan Assault. The title has appeared on a bunch of various “leaked” game lists for the show and this morning 343 has turned those rumors into a reality along with Vanguard Games. Halo: Spartan Assault is a real thing and it is head to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
The new entry into the Halo Universe will be launching next month for a mere $6.99 on Microsoft’s digital storefront. Rather than the tradition FPS games that carry the Halo name, Spartan Assault is a top-down shooter akin to something like Smash TV or, more recently, Warhammer 40K: Kill Team. The goal here is to provide a more action oriented and accessible title that can be picked up and played both at home and on the go on your Windows 8 mobile device. The question that I have is how long before we see this ported over to the XBLA.
More details about the game are being offered in the Halo Waypoint application on your Xbox 360 and the game will be shown off extensively at E3 next week. Until then, you can check out the first trailer for the game below:
