Deep Silver would like to remind everyone that their anticipated shooter followup, Metro Last Light, has gone gold. It should be on store shelves (and Steam) on May 14th here in the States and the 17th in Europe. It's not too late to get those pre-orders in to secure the expert difficulty Ranger Mode. Personally I think it's a little chincy to make your customers pre-order just to get expert mode--Bioshock Infinite let us unlock 1999 difficulty with the Konami code, after all.
I started playing the original Metro 2033 about a year ago and while I loved the atmosphere I had to put it down. I might get back to it someday but I have to hand it to Deep Silver--very few games have such an oppressing sense of bleakness that they legitimately make me seriously depressed. The game was fun and a beautifully orchestrated environment of pure hopelessness, but after a few hours in the metro I had to go outside and walk around in the sunshine.
Prepare to enter the Metro once more, Ranger! – Metro: Last Light has gone gold
April 24, 2013 – LARKSPUR, CA Deep Silver today announced that Metro: Last Light has gone gold. The highly anticipated sequel to the extraordinary Metro 2033 will hit the shelves on May 14, 2013 in North America and May 17, 2013 across Europe. The first person shooter will be available for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC and Mac.
Players who commit themselves to the Spartan order of Rangers, the self-styled protectors of the Metro, will receive a special reward. The Limited Edition of Metro: Last Light, guaranteed with all pre-orders, includes the Ranger Mode DLC. With its HUD free display, deadlier combat and dramatically limited resources, it offers the ultimate challenge for Metro veterans. To support players in this ambitious task, Ranger Mode also includes the Russian AKSU riffle as well as additional 100 military grade rounds to fully customize your starting loadout.
In the year 2034, a nuclear war has turned the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In Moscow, the tunnels of the Metro have become a new home for the former inhabitants of the city. Within the catacombs, they fight for their survival, fending off hordes of hideous mutants born from the toxic atmosphere, as well as other factions desperate to take control of what little hospitable land remains. As they fight, they also search for a doomsday device that could be the key to their victory. A civil war is inevitable. During these dark hours, the players will embody Artyom, and become the last light for all of mankind.
The plot of Metro: Last Light was written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, acclaimed author of the novel Metro 2033 which inspired the creation of both video games. Glukhovsky personally contributed the vast majority of dialogue in Metro: Last Light. Glukhovsky’s novels Metro 2033 and Metro 2034 have sold more than 2,000,000 copies worldwide. In 2013, his latest book Metro 2035 will be also available outside of Russia. The film rights for Metro 2033 were bought by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the movie is currently in development.
