As Sean and I were coming back from breakfast at Bally’s yesterday, we stumbled across Mario and Luigi at the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo Rd. One thing about Vegas, it tends to expose the weaknesses in folks and these two Italian brothers were no different. Initially, based on their pale appearance and the funny way they were acting, we thought they might have been on their way home from an all-night bender (with Bowser maybe?) or making the walk of shame from Princess Peach’s hotel.
However, as we approached it became clear they were only interested in scoring some gold coins from a passerby on the street. Sean, being the kind-hearted soul that he is, went up to see if he could help them out a bit. In the photo below, you can see Sean trying to explain to a clearly distraught Mario that on this planet, we use something called “paper money” and not gold coins. Sure, those president and Sacagawea dollar coins look the part, but not many people carried them so these two were pretty much SOL.
As we walked away, they were still trying to score those elusive gold coins and I even heard one of them begging in Italian for both “fiore” and “fungo”. Whether they were trying to get something to party with later or wanted to get access to fireballs and giant size, we probably will never know.
