Maxis has unveiled a wealth of new details, screenshots, and trailers for both The Sims 3 Seasons expansion and 70s, 80s, & 90s Stuff Pack. The developers recently held an online broadcast in which they showcased new features from the upcoming content releases. The first gameplay demo of the broadcast showcased the season of winter along with its various activities and gameplay effects. I was quite surprised by how much the snow effects dramatically change not only the gameplay, but also the visual style of the game. The visual details ranging from snow and ice accumulation to tracks in the snow and holiday house lights bring a new sense of life to the otherwise static neighborhood exteriors of Sims 3 worlds. Some of the winter activities showcased included snowboarding, ice skating, snow angel, snowmen, and igloo creation, snowball fights, and even the ability to join the polar bear club for swimming in the frigid ocean water.
During the question and answer question, the developers revealed that all Sims 3 worlds including expansion pack, store, and even custom neighborhoods will all support the season effects and features. As well, other residential and community lots in winter will hang holiday lights. As with past expansion pack features, the weather effects and duration of seasons can be toggled in the options menu; players can even completely enable and disable certain seasons. As such, fans of snow can tweak their game to have winter enabled all year-long. The new addition of aliens will have them visiting neighborhood lots from time to time, but function as passive in nature and are optional for interaction. As well, aliens can't be created through the Create a Sim menu, but only can be integrated into an existing household through gameplay.
The developers followed the question and answer session by highlighting new content from the upcoming 70s, 80s, & 90s Stuff Pack. From 80s leg warmers and 70s disco outfits to 90s grunge shirts and retro furniture, the upcoming stuff pack includes an assortment of content to transform both your Sims' outfits and houses. Some of the other content in the stuff pack includes new makeup and hair styles, stereo and vinyl player set, additional radio stations and music, and a whole range of other retro, groovy, and funky items. You'll find trailers below that showcase the new content in The Sims 3 Seasons and 70s, 80s, & 90s Stuff Pack. The complete broadcast recording can be found on Origin.
The Sims 3 Seasons will be available on November 13 for Windows PC and Mac, while The Sims 3 70s, 80s, & 90s Stuff Pack will release next year on January 22. Be sure to check out my review of The Sims 3 Supernatural if you're curious on the previous expansion pack's content and features.
