Hey, do you remember how a couple of years ago someone had the totally rad idea to make a movie version of
Mass Effect?
If you're anything like the rest of the Internet, chances are you mentally blocked that little factoid out so you could get on with your life free of pain and misery. I take a more optimistic view on that kind of stuff, but even I had forgotten that such a movie was in the early stages of pre-pre-pre-pre-production.
Anyway, the big news is that a new screenwriter has been hired to write either a brand new draft or rewrite an old draft of the potential script (which will, of course, be rewritten into oblivion no matter what because that's what happens with movies). His name is
Morgan Davis Froehl.
"AWESOME, I love his work," thought no one.
I'm not saying he isn't a good screenwriter, but rather that I get the feeling no one has ever heard of him before. I know I haven't. He's never even had a screenplay make it to the screen before and is best known, according to Empire News for his script
Whatever Gets You Through the Night. He was, however, and assistant editor on the FX series
Rescue Me and the film...gulp...
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
At least those are things that people have watched.
I don't know about you, but I really hope Mass Effect makes it to film in some way, shape, or form. Best case scenario is that it looks like
Prometheus but has a better story. Worst case scenario: This week on SyFy:
Mass Effect: The Revenge of Son of Space Sharktopus starring C. Thomas Howell as Commander Shepard and Mickey Dolenz as "guy who gets eaten."
I'd watch either one.
