Perhaps the biggest announcement that came out of Nintendo’s Wii U preview event last week was the announcement of a new exclusive title for the upcoming system. Platinum Games has teamed up with Nintendo to deliver Bayonetta 2 exclusively for the Wii U. Platinum has developed the game and Nintendo will be handling the publishing for the highly anticipated action game.
This announcement caught many members of the gaming universe off guard, including myself. Originally published by Sega for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Bayonetta series is a hard-edge action game that is overflowing with sexuality and violence; long-story short, this is everything Nintendo isn’t known for. I never would have expected to see Bayonetta land on a Nintendo console, let alone as an exclusive, first-party published offering.
Perhaps this is the beginning of a new era for Nintendo, one where they take their games a little more seriously and open their ears to their fans.
