This has been a good week for indie developers. First
Steam Greenlight was announced by
Valve, now it looks like there may be a new indie console as well.
OUYA, which uses a modified Android OS for HD games, seeks to make a dent in the console market by offering indie developers the chance develop games for HDTVs. Using a free to play model, it will allow developers to create games that require you to purchase supplies, or even upgrade a demo form them to get a full game. If this will be successful remains to be seen.
The proposed system has a
KickStarter page which as of this posting has raised over $667,000 of their $950,000 goal in just over a day.
The console, which will be about the size of a Rubik's cube, will cost $99.
