CD Projekt RED: “You don’t have to know The Witcher, to play its sequel”. But still they released a recap movie (contains major spoilers)
CD Projekt RED has released a new short animation, which summarizes events that preceded The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The video is the part of the Enhanced Edition of the game, which will be available April 17th for Xbox 360 and PC. The video can be found here (SPOILER ALERT! The movie allows players that haven’t had the chance to play the first Witcher to know what happened in it. The game creators stress that this knowledge is not necessary to play the game.
“The story of The Witcher 2 begins just after the events of the first part. But you don’t have to know the previous events, because the sequel has a completely new story and sends the protagonist, Geralt, east of Wyzima (the main location of the first game). There the witcher will meet some old friends: Triss Merigold, the poet Dandelion, the dwarf Zoltan Chivay. Those who played the first game will recall some of this cast. A few dialogs refer to the first game, but recognizing these references just gives a little more meaning. If The Witcher 2 is your first encounter with Geralt, you will smoothly enter the story. Those who know the first game will feel the continuity between the both parts.” – says Marcin Blacha, a story writer at CD Projekt RED.
The story of The Witcher 2 tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher. The history of his kind was explained in the previous recap movie released by the developers. As Geralt, the player will find himself deeply embroiled in a complex plot.
After saving king Foltest of Temeria from an assassination attempt, Geralt continues to protect him as the royal bodyguard. The Temerian kingdom is internally divided – Baroness La Valette announced her secession from the realm and the king’s army is preparing for the final assault. Geralt is among the royal soldiers divided between aiding the king and unveiling the identity of the mysterious assassin.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition will be available for Xbox 360 and PC on the 17th of April. On the 5th of April at 5 p.m. GMT CD Projekt RED will stream a conference, where they will reveal more details concerning the upcoming title.
