With the latest release of Minecraft 1.2 from Mojang, block architects will now be able to build beyond the previous 128 limit to a glorious 256. The creations being produced already were quite amazing, however, the new space available should result in some insane structures. The patch's other major features include the addition of a jungle biome, cats, ocelots, and even iron golems. Lastly, minor changes include reworked AI for mobs, villagers can have children, and rare drops for mobs. The complete list can be found below:
New jungle biome
Added ocelots
Added cats
Added iron golems
New AI for mobs
Tame wolves can have puppies
Villagers will have children if there is room in their village
New map height limit (256 instead of 128)
New items and blocks
Doors have been updated so that double-doors work better with redstone
Added rare drops for mobs
Many other minor tweaks and fixes
The Minecraft launcher for Mac has also been updated with support for the proper selection of 64-bit Java installations. This will significantly improve performance of the game, especially if high-resolution texture mods are installed. The new launcher can be downloaded from the Minecraft website.
And finally, it wouldn't be a proper update to Minecraft without a trailer showcasing the new features. If you're looking for some building inspiration or a glimpse of version 1.2 creations, creep on over to the Minecraft subreddit.
