One of the best games I played as a young kid on my Commodore 64 was Karateka. From the person who did Prince of Persia, Karateka featured a simple control scheme of punches and kicks as you fought your way to rescue the princess. The game was pretty short, but it was a lot of fun back in the day.
Well the original creator, Jordan Mechner, is bringing the classic back to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as a downloadable game this year, talking to Wired. To say I'm excited to see what an updated version of Karateka would bring is an understatement.
Just don't expect the same surprises this time around. I remember the first time I reached the princess in the original and walked towards her in t he fighting stance only to be kicked and killed in one shot. Yeah, that got to me. From the sounds of it, that won't be in there in the new release, but new surprises will be showing up.
I'm so glad Jordan decided to go back to a game that gave me many endearing memories.
