Rumors are beginning to swirl that Ocarina of Time won’t be the only classic Zelda title getting remade in 3D. Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma recently said in an interview with
Gamesradar
“Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games, in particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds. That's something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future."
It would make a lot of sense for Nintendo to go back and revisit what is arguably the best entry in the series to date, but I worry that the concept of a 3D remake is lost in translation here. The question remains if we are talking about simply adding 3D effects to the existing game or completely remaking it in 3D akin to the recent entries in the series. Granted, I would be happy with either, though the full remake would surely garner a ton of attention from the gaming world.
Hopefully Nintendo will have some sort of official announcement regarding this possible project in the near future.
