The most basic thing you can do in a western RPG is often the very first thing you're forced to do, and that is pick a class. 38 Studios says this is a bad idea. How can you know what class you want to be before you know how each one plays? I'll admit, I've played a fair amount of RPGs but that idea never once occurred to me even though I've made more bad beginning class decisions than good ones. 38 Studios seeks to rectify this basic and mostly un-thought of issue in their upcoming fantasy RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Instead of picking a class at the beginning, you're given the option to pick Destinies later on that open up depending on your play-style. In the following video, the game's developers demonstrate exactly how this Destiny system will work while also touching on the similar Fate system. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning comes out on February 7th.
