It is a sad, sad day for Batman fans. After previously warning that
Batman: Arkham City would be his last project in the role of the Clown Prince of Crime, Mark Hamill has officially retired from portraying the Joker.
Per Mark Hamill’s
Twitter account:
“Hello/Goodbye Joker! I've enjoyed every minute behind the wheel of the Crown Prince's crazy car- I'm going to miss him more than I can say!!”
Hamill began making statements as far back as May of this year hinting that he was going to retire his iteration of the Joker following the completion of the game. He is holding true to his word and claims that he will not be putting on the hand-buzzer any more. It is really sad as Hammill’s portrayal of the Joker was as iconic as perhaps Heath Ledger’s in the last Batman movie. Hammill IS the Joker, at least to a whole generation of Batman fans.
Who knows, maybe something will pull him out of retirement down the line; they always come back for a farewell tours.
Always.
