Microsoft has revealed a “season pass” program for the upcoming
Gears of War 3. A lot of gamers have given other companies a lot of “flack” for similar programs yet Microsoft has just unveiled the most expensive yet. For the price of 2,400 Microsoft points ($30) players will get access to the first four post-release DLC packs and a set of limited edition Liquid Metal weapons.
According to Microsoft and Epic Games, this will save you roughly 33% compared to buying each of the packs individually as they are released. The first pack for the game hasn’t even been announced yet but is being targeted for a November release date.
A lot of people will make a big deal about this but I don’t think this is an issue, at all. This is basically nothing more than a preorder incentive for DLC which is the next logical step in the evolution of the gaming industry. As the economic market of the industry continues to shift towards online commerce, it shouldn’t be any surprise that the traditional marketing means and offers would do the same...
