Sonic Generations is an homage to the entire series features revamped levels from almost everywhere the franchise has ever gone. You're favorite levels from Sonic 1 all the way up to last years Sonic Colors will not only get a side scrolling remix, but a third-person remix as well as you race through levels as both the classic and modern versions of the furry speedball.
At my behind closed doors session for the game I got a taste of the Big Gun truck level from Sonic Adventures 2. In the side scrolling version the truck would decimate platforms forcing you to take alternate routes if you weren't quick enough to get past its bombardment. Multiple paths are now not only to the top and bottom of the screen but in the background and foreground as well giving designers a chance to really beef up the replay and exploration value of the title.
The third person version of the level harkened back to the original Adventures game in many ways, but added all the new moves such as speed dash and homing attacks to Sonics arsenal for an improved experience. Event the truck got an overhaul with the addition of giant saw blades on mechanical arms protruding everywhere.
And not a single hint of a werehog was to be found anywhere, thank god.
Everyone and their mother has been trying to tell Sega to get their flagship title back to its roots and it looks like they've finally taken the hint for this benchmark birthday. Look for it later this year on Xbox 360, PS3 and another version of the game for 3DS.
