Everyone seemed to drool over Mario Galaxy when it came out in 2007, but I personally was kind of let down. The ideas were there but Nintendo really didn't take them to their full potential until Mario Galaxy 2 last year, and I've still wanted a more "grounded" Mario game ever since Mario Sunshine was the "wft?" Mario 64 followup that left everyone cold.
Now Mario 64 is finally getting a real sequel in
Super Mario 3DS, which looks to combine the best elements from not only Mario 64 and Galaxy but the older platformers like Mario 3 as well. I've always preferred Mario World to Mario 3 so I'm not in tears of joy over the doofy raccoon suit like everyone else is, but I am pretty happy to see another Mario 64 style platformer taking shape. I just hope Yoshi and the cape make an appearance too.
