Croteam has been hard at work on
Serious Sam 3: BFE, and they've served up a few new screens for your perusal. Taking a page from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Serious Sam 3 is a prequel to the first two Sam games, detailing Mental's initial invasion of Earth and how Sam "Serious" Stone became the hero we know him as.
I've always wanted to see the war that was simply alluded to in the original game's brief opening exposition, but I'm not sure if I'm sold on Sam 3's art style. The original game--Serious Sam: the First and Second Encounter--struck a perfect balance between outrageous violence and colorful, cartoony settings and characters. In my opinion Serious Sam 2 was just a bit
too cartoony looking, and now it seems that Sam 3 is going for a more realistic take. I'm all for realism in some games, I just hope Sam 3 isn't too realistic or grotesque enough that it veers into Doom or Quake territory. If the enemies are too disturbing or the violence too grim, it'll be hard to chuckle at just how over the top it all is, and personally that's always been my favorite part of the Serious Sam games.
