I feel pretty bad for Sega. For all their off-the-wall brilliance they've had some major screw-ups over the years, the most glaring being their recent abuse of their mascot. I'm sure Sega is aware of this and it's probably why they've tried to reboot the little blue mammal about three times, first with the awful Sonic 2006, again last year with Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors, and now this holiday season with Sonic Generations. I know both Sonic 4 and Colors showed a lot of promise but in their own way each fell short of expectations.
The gameplay in Sonic Generations, however, looks like the perfect combination. They have the old-school 2D speedster sidescrolling down to a science where you play as classic Sonic, but you can also play as modern Sonic in a more 3D-focused perspective. It's that second part that's been so difficult for Sega to get the hang of and while this trailer looks like they finally have gotten it to work, I know better than to get my hopes up when it comes to the Blue Blur.
