THQ has announced the cancellation of two of its free-to-play online games:
Company of Heroes Online and
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Online. The announcement of both projects’ cancellation came after the company’s financials were announced last week.
While Smackdown vs. Raw Online had not launched here in the states, the beta version of Company of Heroes Online has been up and running since July 2010. The servers for the title are going to be shut down on March 31, 2011. After re-evaluating its financial investment in both projects, THQ determined that the free-to-play model involved in them was not to their benefit. It is being reported that they lost roughly $10 million. Ouch...
