How do you feel about introductory videos in MMOs? Most of the time it can be a waste of time, but there is an occasional exception (I'm looking at the excellent DC Universe Online intro). After watching the intro for Earthrise, I'm not sure how to feel. I imagine it will make a difference when you actually get to play the game and see how it relates.
I did come away with a few thoughts.
If you are riding that fast in a vehicle, you really should have a windshield. I'm sure he's eaten one or two bugs in his day.
It only takes 50,000 credits to be resurrected in the future. I hope I live that long.
Masthead Studios Debuts Earthrise Intro Trailer
SOFIA, BULGARIA – January 20, 2011 - Masthead Studios, a leading independent developer of MMOs, has released an introductory trailer for its upcoming MMORPG, Earthrise.
The new video can be viewed by clicking on the following link: http://www.play-earthrise.com/media/
“As launch gets closer and closer, we are so excited to hear fans’ reactions and thoughts on Earthrise, and we hope that this intro gives them more insight into the lore behind the game,” said Atanas Atanasov, producer of Earthrise and director of Masthead Studios. “We are already working on updates and additions for post-launch, and can’t wait for even more players to become immersed in the world of Enterra.”
The latest Earthrise video introduces fans to the thrill of venturing into the wilderness of Enterra alone to obtain new gear. The protagonist is an adventurer who rides a long way to an old, crafting terminal from the age of the Pioneers – a military grade technology currently only available to the government. Journeying into unknown territory at the risk of a potential ambush, the main character relies on his protection armor, shotgun and skimmer mount for safety. The antagonist is wearing speed armor and using the precision rifle to attack the protagonist and loot his possessions.
The trailer also depicts the main character being awakened into the re-vesselment chamber. Fans can see the global insurance system that is maintained by Helix Corp., an independent, neutral company that is ready to return lost items to players if they have insurance, which can be very expensive. In Earthrise, players will always get a second chance to return to Enterra to seek revenge on those who have previously harmed them.
In partnership with Iceberg Interactive (www.iceberg-interactive.com), a retail version of Earthrise will be offered exclusively in Europe starting February 4th and is currently available for pre-order. Earthrise will also be available February 4th for digital download at www.play-earthrise.com and select distribution partners. The digital version will also offer exclusive items to players.
