Prepare to be Breach-ed on January 26th
Atomic Games takes their military simulation experience to the Xbox 360 and PC with their multiplayer first-person shooter for the masses. Breach promises a unique cover system, real military weaponry, various character classes, and more. When does it hit and how much will it cost? Read on to find out.
Video games aren't just for civilians, but with Breach, Atomic Games will try to prove that its experience in military simulation isn't just for soldiers.
Breach is a first-person multiplayer shooter with destructible environments and a unique cover system. The Destruction Toolbox allows players to destroy the environment at will in order to change the playing field. Players can shoot holes in ceilings to attack players above them. Players behind bricks for cover can shoot out a few to allow for a line of fire and attack enemies. Players can even attach breaching charges on their opponents and gleefully detonate them from a distance.
The Active Cover system in Breach is unique in that the player perspective snaps from a first-person to a third-person view once cover is initiated. This allows players to get a wider view of what's going on around them and plan their next move. Is someone attacking from a balcony? Take out the supports from behind Active Cover and watch as your opponent crumbles to his demise. Players will even be able to fire blindly from behind cover to suppress attacks and allow time to make a move.
For players looking for authenticity, Breach uses real weapons that soldiers use. From USP.45 pistols to M4A1 rifles, and MP5 machine guns to the M107 sniper rifle, Atomic Games is aiming to try and blur the line between playing a game and taking part in a training exercise. The realism doesn't stop there, either. Gadgets like the Bionic Ear, IR Sniper Detector, and the M2 SLAM Charge are also in the game and can provide distinct advantages for certain character classes. There are five classes in all, including Rifleman, Gunner, Support, Sniper, and Recon, and each has his own weapons and gadgetry loadout.
We'll be curious to see how Breach turns out. The game is due to arrive on January 26th; Xbox 360 owners will be able to purchase it from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 USD). PC owners will be able to either purchase the game digitally or buy it from retail for $20. The PC version promises to have better visuals and a Hardcore mode of play, as well as the ability to use dedicated servers.
