Sometimes when you are walking the floor at CES you have to be more lucky than good when stumbling upon something that we would find interesting. After coming back from an earlier appointment, I was passing the Panasonic booth and they were just starting a demonstration of game play on the Vierra Connect system that is on the Panasonic Connected TVs.
While I think the Panasonic demonstrators might be a bit over-excited when boasting that you “no longer need a dedicated game console” to open the video, the gameplay and graphics were actually pretty good for an app streaming across a connected TV. The game they were demoing was Asphalt 5 from Gameloft and can be found in the Vierra Connect Market. The only issue I see is that it appears Panasonic will be selling their own controllers, which may put a damper on households that already have one, two or even all three of the current gen systems with full accessory packages.
Also, for all you aspiring App developers out there, Panasonic will also be opening up their Vierra Connect Market to 3rd party developers.
I apologize for the first 20 seconds or so of video as I was installing the mono-pod on the camera to stabilize my picture and it was a bit jerky.
