Prototype 2 features a new main character

With the original Prototype, you played Alex Mercer, shapeshifter extraordinaire. At the VGAs, Prototype 2 was unveiled, but this time, you're playing as someone else after Mercer.

As Sgt. James Heller, your goal is to destroy Alex Mercer. It seems Mr. Heller has the same powers as Alex and he's seeking revenge for his family, who died in New York City and he thinks Alex is responsible for both their deaths and his turn into a mutated monster.

Radical's going for an interesting turn here making you hunt down the protagonist from the first game, but we'll see how well it works in 2012 when the game's released. The first preview will be in April's EGM magazine and I'm guessing we'll see more in few months after that at E3.

If you didn't play the first game, it's going to be on the consoles for $29.99 via direct download. The game's also out on the PC so you might be able to find a very discounted copy somewhere.

ACTIVISION REVEALS PROTOTYPE® 2

PROTOTYPE 2 is currently rated “RP” (Rating Pending) by the ESRB, with an expected “M” (Mature – Content that may be suitable for persons 17 and older) rating – because players will still be able to karate kick helicopters right out of the sky and do all sorts of really gory stuff with tendrils; but mostly because Heller is really pissed off at Alex Mercer and there’s no way to tell that story without getting a little...well…gross.
