October 5th is nearing (can you believe it’s October yet?) and that means the release of Enslaved is just around the corner. In the meantime, you can check out our new interview with Ninja Theory discussing the game, or you can take a look at the newly released making of video that we’ve posted below.
The video attempts to portray the essence of the characters as helped formed by performance capture expert Andy Serkis who plays as Monkey. The video lets you go behind the scenes to the recording process for both visual performance and audio captures. It’s an interesting five and a half minute look at what went into both the storyline and characters in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
Ninja Theory strives to elevate the quality of storytelling in the medium of video games and much effort was focused on the fidelity of the characters in addition to an engaging story, visuals, gameplay and more. Ninja Theory enlisted the help of renowned performance capture expert Andy Serkis who helped to co-direct the performances as well as act in the lead role of Monkey. The latest behind the scenes video provides an inside look at this performance process, including footage from the set and interviews with the actors and dev team members.
Developed by Ninja Theory Ltd., ENSLAVED takes players on a gripping, surprise-filled journey as two dissimilar characters form an uneasy union in order to survive their way through a perilous, post-apocalyptic America. In ENSLAVED, players take on the role of Monkey, a strong and athletic, yet solitary figure, who has been captured by one of the mysteri ous slave ships, which harvest the remaining population and take them out west never to return. Trip, a technologically savvy young woman who has also been imprisoned by the same ship, manages to escape. She quickly realizes that Monkey, with his raw strength and power, is her only hope to survive the perilous journey back to her home. She hacks into a slave headband and fits it on Monkey, linking them together – if she dies, he dies… Her journey has now become his and Monkey must now travel west alongside Trip as they traverse a demolished world, under constant threat of capture and mortal peril.
A tactical action-adventure game, ENSLAVED centers on the complex relationship between the two main characters and challenges players to employ a mix of combat, strategy and environment traversal. With influences and contributions from top music and film industry talent, ENSLAVED combines beautifully rendered graphics and captivating music with seamless animation and engrossing gameplay.
ENSLAVED will be available for Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 system on October 5, 2010. ENSLAVED is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB and will have an MSRP of $59.99.
