There is still a glimmer of hope for those
PS3 owners who long for backwards compatability with the PlayStation 2 console, myself included. According to the
Ripten Video Game Blog Sony has registered a patent in Japan for a “PlayStation 2 compatability adapter”.
The diagram submitted with the patent application depict an external device that has its own processor, DVD decoder and emulator, as well as sound and graphics processors. It is important to note though that this process is still, technically, in its infancy. The patent process usually occurs very early in the development process and this device is likely still a ways out. If nothing else, it still gives us hope that backwards compatability for the
PS3 isn’t completely dead.
